This week, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that the Waste Tire Trust Fund will award nearly $850K to county governments for projects using rubber mulch from recycled tires, in support of the Kentucky Energy & Environment Cabinet’s Waste Tire Collection Program. The Waste Tire Trust Fund is maintained by a $2 fee on the retail sale of each new tire in the state, helping to manage the approximately five million scrap tires generated in Kentucky each year and promoting the development of markets for recycled tire products.
Funded projects include accessibility upgrades and recreational amenities, such as park benches, picnic tables, landscaping, parking curbs, walking trails, running tracks, and playgrounds that use recycled waste tires.
